Bernard L French

Bernard L. French, 92, of Astoria, Illinois passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Rushville Nursing and Rehab Center.  He was born October 30, 1930, in Astoria Illinois, the son of Loren and Eileen Sheaffer French.  He married Wanda Peterman on July 8^th, 1960, in Rushville Illinois. Wanda preceded Bernard in death on December 11, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Kim Wilson of Camp Point, Illinois; two sons: Ronald French of Jacksonville, Illinois and Gary French of Galesburg, Illinois; four grandchildren: Kasey Jo Wilson, Jacob Lee Sheppard, Jack Patrick, and Jossee Rose Foster; and a great grandchild, Bri Bri Wilson. Bernard is also survived by his former wife, Patricia French, of Jacksonville, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, and a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Patrick.

Bernard French was a veteran of the First Calvary, U.S. Army, during the Korean War.  Mr. French was a licensed Union Electrician and worked with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union #55.  Bernard enjoyed camping, especially in the Ozarks, in his camper. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bernard was renowned for his epic vegetable garden in Astoria, and he grew dwarf fruit trees.

The visitation will be between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Triplett & Wood Funeral Home Rushville, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM Wednesday. Immediately after the funeral, a burial will be in Rushville Cemetery with full military honors.
