Cecil Lee Vancil, 72, of Macomb, passed away at 5:53 AM, Thursday, July 2, 2020, at his home.
He was born on February 25, 1948, in Rushville, the son of Ivan and Vera (Diseron) Vancil. He married Doris Sargent on November 17, 1968, at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2016.
Surviving are two children Amy Walker of LaHarpe and Aaron Vancil and wife Tara of St. Cloud, Florida, six grandchildren Colton Walker, Carson Walker, McKenna Vancil, Hudson Vancil, Harper Vancil and Elliotte Vancil, one brother Paul Vancil and wife Jenny of Bushnell, special friend Dianna Clark of Macomb, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cecil was a 1966 graduate of Rushville High School and attended Western Illinois University, where he would later graduate with a Bachelors in Agriculture Degree.
He was drafted into the United States Army on January 18, 1968, and served until September 1, 1970. He would serve as a Staff Sergeant in Vietnam, where he would earn the Purple Heart Medal, two Bronze Stars, two Air Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and a Combat Infantryman Badge.
After his war service, he returned to Bushnell, where he farmed for 19 years. He later drove for Fayhee Implement. For 15 years, he drove a truck for and worked with Correction Industries at the Illinois River Correctional Facility in Canton retiring in April 2018.
He was a member of the Macomb VFW, Macomb American Legion, DAV in Peoria, the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Peoria, Walnut Grove United Methodist Church and the Hancock County Gun Club, National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed golfing and shot a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed trap shooting and square dancing and country line dancing.
Services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Pastor Stacy Tomich officiating. Interment will follow in the Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield . Military rites will be conducted by the Inter Veterans Burial Detail. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, July 6, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested to the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church or the Honor Flight in Peoria.
