Dale D. Wenger, 76, of Rushville, passed away peacefully at 5:50 pm on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.
He was born on October 10, 1945, in Rushville, the son of the late Ezra and Edna (Ferrell) Wenger. Dale graduated from Rushville High School, Class of 1963. Following graduation, Dale served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Phyllis Busby on May 22, 1970, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Rushville and she survives.
Dale began working on the family farm as a farmer and truck driver, he later served as road commissioner for Woodstock Township, a position he had held for 18 years. He was also a heavy equipment operator for Powell Bulldozing in Camden and later worked for Esther Farms as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was especially fond of coyote hunting; a hobby that he enjoyed for his entire life. Above all, Dale loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Phyllis, Dale is survived by his sons; Dennis Wenger and Gary (Becky) Wenger, both of Rushville, three grandchildren; Alec, Maggie and Jackson Wenger, all of Rushville and by a sister; Joan (Lyle) Ganther of Tiskilwa. Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by a brother; Paul Wenger.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Dale will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Brother Matt Haberman will officiate. Interment will follow at the Palm Cemetery in Rushville where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Dale are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
