Donald Webster

Donald L. “Hop” Webster, 81, of Rushville, passed away at 6:45 PM, Friday, June 24, 2016, at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.

He was born on December 19, 1934, in Elvaston, Illinois, the son of the late Kenneth and Vera (Sharrow) Webster.  He married Yvonne “Kay” Akers on June 2, 1957, at the Bowen Christian Church and she survives.

Also surviving are his daughter Joni Witt and husband Warren of Tebbetts, Missouri and his son Mitch Webster and friend Erica Garcia and her son Carlos of Beardstown, three grandchildren Andrea Sellers and husband J.C. and Todd Witt and fiancée Allyn Gibbs all of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Abby Webster of Rushville, three great grandchildren Alaina, Grayson and Jameson Sellers, two brothers Larry Webster and wife Glenadene of Bowen and Ed Webster and wife Mary of Macomb, 2 sisters Roberta Larson and husband Roy of LeClaire, Iowa and Kay Schild of Quincy, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Cludray of Plymouth, Janet Wear and husband Gary of Lorraine, Donnie Akers of Hamilton, Shirley Akers of West Point, and Cookie Akers of Plymouth, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Rita Webster, a brother Leon “Butch” Webster, brothers-in-law Frankie Akers, Bill Akers, Terry Akers and Paul Schild.

Hop was baptized in the Bowen Methodist Church.  He retired after 26 years of managing Schuyler Livestock Sales in Rushville.  He was active in the Schuyler County Fair Cattle Show, which at the time was the largest county cattle show in the State of Illinois.  He was recognized as a Friend of the Livestock Industry in 2004 by the Schuyler-Brown Cattleman’s Association.  He was a lifelong avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and managed Little League teams in Golden for several years.

Services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Reverend Keela Neumann officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bowen Cemetery, in Bowen, Illinois.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.  Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice or the Special Care Unit of   Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.
