Elbert Dean Harness, 95, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Lima, passed away at 1:31 p.m. on Friday, April 02, 2021 at Blessing Hospital. He was born on February 7, 1926 the son of Cleo and Grace (Jackson) Harness in Lima, Illinois. He married Juanita Featheringill in November of 1950. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2017.
Survivors include; three children, Deanna (Gary) Starman of Quincy, Brent (Laura) Harness of Sutter, Susan Keck of Quincy; ten grandchildren, Shane (Patricia) Starman, Chris (Jackie) Starman, Drew Starman, Kip Starman, Joe Harness, Michelle (Pat) Martin, Craig (Katie) Harness, Amanda (Travis) Bradshaw, Austin Keck, Allison Keck; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Koenig of Quincy and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elbert was preceded in death by his wife, brother-in-law, Jim Koenig and a granddaughter Rachel Harness.
Elbert was a Mendon High School graduate. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Bear Creek American Legion and the Lima Masonic Lodge #205. Elbert was a farmer and employed at Harris Corporation in Quincy. Elbert and Juanita enjoyed looking for furniture and glassware at auctions and antique shops.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in the Crossing Church in Lima with Ron Tallcott officiating. Interment will follow in the Lima Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until the time of services in the church on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
