GOLDEN, Ill. -- Imogene Aden Smith, 88, of Golden, died at 4:35 p.m. Sunday (May 13, 2012) in the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden.

Imogene was born June 20, 1923, to the late Samuel and Jennie Aden Worman. She married Lester Sterling Smith on Jan. 11, 1942, in Golden.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, where she taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of the Ladies Guild and chairperson of the 125th Anniversary Committee.

Imogene worked for the Golden Locker. She then began a 27-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, where she spent 16 of those years, 1971-1987, as postmaster of the Golden Post Office. She was a member of the Golden American Legion Auxiliary, Golden Historical Society and many postal organizations where she held different offices. She and Lester enjoyed traveling to rural mail carrier conventions and Lester's World War II Army division reunions. She loved to socialize and was very dedicated to her community.

Imogene is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lester Sterling Smith of Golden; two daughters, Jackie Parn and her husband, Larry, of Quincy and Ginger Teefey and her husband, Ed, of Mount Sterling; four grandchildren, Lori Billdilli and her husband, Chris, of Springfield, Michael Rittenhouse and his wife, Ashley, of Quincy, Daniel Teefey and his wife, Dana, of West Lafayette, Ind., and John Teefey and his wife, Lindsey, of Springfield; 11 great-grandchildren, Wesley and Aiden Billdilli, Alexis and McKinley Rittenhouse, Adelaide, Miriam, Teshetae, Manning, Elijah, Andrew and Owen Teefey; and a sister, Phyllis Osborne.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Rittenhouse; a brother, Ronald Worman; and a sister, Donna Ideus.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden with the Rev. Linda Murray officiating. Burial will be in Golden Memorial Gardens in Golden.

VISITATION: 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden.

MEMORIALS: Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden Good Shepherd Home or the Golden Historical Society.
