Joan Hanning, 90, of Concord, North Carolina, formerly of Rushville, passed away at 1:15 PM, Monday, August 10, 2020, at her home.
She was born on June 3, 1930, in Schuyler County, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Simpson) Ward. She married Gale Hanning on September 18, 1948, at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2012.
Surviving are one daughter Linda Hood and husband Reverend James of Concord, North Carolina, seven grandchildren Angela Jurisch and husband Mitch, Laura Wolcenski and husband Ryan, Allison Hanning, Jason Hood and wife Rene’, Marc Hood, Eric Hood and wife Ashley, and Michael Hood and wife Jessica, daughter-in-law Kathleen Hanning of Fridley, Minnesota, eight great grandchildren Jordan Hood, Cecil Hood, Aiden Hood, Cassidy Wolcenski and Hunter Wolcenski, Ava Hood, Jonah Hood and Levi Hood, one sister Carole Wells and husband Russell of Roodhouse, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Gary Hanning, two brothers Wendell Ward and Lyle Ward, and one sister Sara Logsdon.
Joan worked at Bartlow Brothers in Rushville for 13 years and was a homemaker. She and Gale enjoyed spending winters in Texas. She was an avid gardener and quilter. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 29, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with David Haney officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 29, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
