Joyce Gossage, 74, of Rushville, passed away at 12:32 AM, Monday, March 6, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born on May 28, 1942, in Ray, Illinois, the daughter of Wayne and Yvonne (Cook) Settles. She married Jack Gossage on September 7, 1963, in Rushville, and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1992.
Surviving are two sons Kevin Gossage and wife Dawn of Frederick, and Sam Gossage and wife Luan of Rushville, seven grandchildren Shannon Konkler, Heather Barry, Michele Gallaher and companion Adam Goben, Amy Dochterman and companion Mike O’Neill, Haylee Gossage and companion Charlie Long, Sammy Gossage, Mickey Gossage and companion Kendra Maltby, eleven great grandchildren Dylan, Kendra, Keegan, Kaylee, Paige, Brady, Hayden, Kaleb, Hunter, Izek, and Ayden, one great great granddaughter, four sisters Sharon Hale of Bluffs, Waynette Stults and husband Red of Palmyra, Illinois, Donna Jeanne Stevenson and husband Herb of Camden, and Carol Settles of Rushville, one brother James Settles and wife Lisa of Bluffs, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Terry Gossage, one brother George Settles.
Joyce was a member of the 1960 graduating class of Rushville High School, the last class to graduate from the “old” high school. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Snyder’s Vaughn Haven Nursing Home in Rushville and Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown. She later was a waitress at various restaurants and cooked at Mary’s Dari Maid and Brown’s Restaurant both in Rushville. She also was the driver of the transport van at the Schuyler County Senior Center.
She was a den mother with the boy scouts, when her boys were young. In her younger years, she enjoyed mushrooming. She also enjoyed reading and watching soap operas. Her grandchildren were very important to her.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Brother Matt Haberman officiating. Interment will follow in the Messerer Cemetery, near Frederick. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested to the Schuyler County Senior Center.
