Lyle Robertson

Lyle D. Robertson, 94, of Virginia and formerly of Browning, passed away peacefully at 10:03 pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.

 He was born on June 28, 1930, in rural Browning, the son of the late Kenneth & Leoma (Dresher) Robertson. Following his graduation from Rushville High School in 1948, Lyle served in the United States Army. Following his military service, Lyle went on to work in the concrete business with his family; Robertson Block Company in Beardstown. Later in life, he would work at Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and also for the Illinois Department of Public Aid until his retirement. 

 Lyle was an expert bowler and competed in many tournaments all across the United States while he was in the Army. He was the manager for the Rushville Rushettes, a girls fast pitch softball team. When you would visit Lyle, he often liked to relate stories from years past that his family enjoyed listening to. Lyle enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing. His favorite sports teams were the Chicago Bears & the Chicago Cubs. 

 Lyle is survived by his sisters; Joyce Robertson of rural Browning & Judy Smart of Browning. Three step children; Sam & Shannon Woolums & Amanda (Ron) Fernandes all of Wisconsin, a niece; Ellen (Kelly) Cassiday of Chatham, nephews; Mark (Vicki) Robertson of Keosauqua, Iowa, Bryce (Kathy) Robertson of Payson, Kevin (Melinda) Robertson of Rushville & Eric (Melinda) Smart of rural Browning. Besides his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his brother; Lester “Bud” Robertson and by his sister in-law; Jo Ann Robertson. 

 Funeral services honoring Lyle’s life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville. Interment will follow in the Ridgeville Cemetery in rural Browning where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and by the Schuyler County American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Lyle are suggested to the Walker Nursing Home’s Activity Fund or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
