Margaret Street, 98, of Rushville, passed away at 4:15 PM, Sunday, December 11, 2016, at her home.

She was born on March 22, 1918, in Rushville, the daughter of Clarence and Alta (French) Tomlinson.  She married Jesse Street on September 18, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on November 4, 2001.

Surviving are one daughter Pamela Ortman and husband Gary of Morton, one grandson Kyley Ortman of Oceanside, California, and several nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister Aileen Harn.

From 1965 to 1986, Margaret first worked for the Secretary of State Office in Springfield and later as a clerk for the Illinois State Board of Education in Springfield.  She also worked as a parole officer and election judge in Rushville.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville.  She served as the Sunday School teacher of the Sooner Class, as an elder, a deacon, on the church board and nearly every committee of the church.  She volunteered with funeral dinners provided by the church.  Margaret loved the children of the church and would prepare special goodies to be handed out for many holidays.  She was also a member of the former Women’s Federation.  She was very active with the Democratic Party.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and entertaining.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, with Pastor John Sowers officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Saturday, at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville.
