She was born July 18, 1938, in Clayton Township, a daughter of the late Gerd H. and Daisy Saathoff Behrens. She married Melvin Ihnen on Sept. 20, 1959, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden. He survives of Clayton.
Marlene was in the first class to graduate from the new Central High School. She was an academic advisor at John Wood Community College in Quincy for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, where she was a past member of the church council and a past Sunday school teacher. She was a member of WELCA and sang in the church choir, being called upon to sing for numerous weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Golden Historical Society, Adams County H.C.E. and JWCC Retirees Club; was a JWCC Baachus Club advisor; and was an active volunteer at the Prairie Mills Windmill in Golden. She enjoyed the history of Golden and her own family history and enjoyed reading.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two children, Alison (Paul) Tieman of Liberty and Derik (Alicia) Ihnen of Augusta; three grandchildren, Hila Tieman of Liberty, Ingrid Ihnen of Augusta and Liam Ihnen of Augusta; one brother, John Harberts, of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Florine Flesner and Marjorie Leenerts.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor David Armstrong-Reiner conducting. Burial will be in Golden Community Cemetery.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Hunter Funeral Home, Golden.
