Martin Edwards

Martin D. Edwards, 55, of Rushville, passed away at 10:31 AM, Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born on April 7, 1963, in Rushville, the son of Robert J. and Bernita (Hoffmeier) Edwards.  He married Shari Murray on August 31, 1984, in Rushville and she survives.

Also surviving are his children Chris (wife Amber) Edwards of Fairbury, Emma (Jake Hendricks) Bentz of Arenzville, and Kelli (Curtis Terwelp) Edwards of Rushville, three grandchildren Carson Bentz, Harper Edwards, and Tucker Edwards and one granddaughter on the way, his brothers and sisters Joe Edwards and wife Vickie of Frederick, Terrie Loughary and husband Mike of Beardstown, and Susan Crook of Rushville, sisters-in law Diane Edwards of Rushville, and Susan Seymore and husband Bill of Macomb, brother-in-law Kevin Murray and wife Nancy and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Steve Edwards.

Martin first worked as a baker at Kozy Korner in Rushville.  He was currently a custodian at Webster School in Rushville, having begun on June 18, 1987.  He loved the kids and his coworkers as though they were his own family.  He also worked for Bruiser’s food stand.

He was a devoted and committed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushville.  He had a passion for collecting telephones and was a member of the Antique Telephone Collectors Association and the Telephone Collectors International.  He enjoyed playing with his pet bull Junior that he had raised from a baby, along with his other cattle Rosie and Chance.  He loved the television show The Walton’s and often commented he would like to join their family.  His grandson now carries the love of the show with him.  Martin never met a stranger and loved to visit every chance he could get.  His grandkids held the most important place in his heart.

Services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Pastor Mike Burdick officiating.  Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery on Honey Point Road, near Meredosia.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.  Memorials are suggested to his grandchildren’s education.
