LIBERTY, Ill. -- Mary Jane Donley, 100, of Liberty, died Tuesday (May 13, 2014) in Timberpoint Health Care Center, Camp Point.
She was born March 4, 1914, in Loraine, a daughter of Lawrence and Mary Swain Randles. She married James H. Donley on June 8, 1932. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Donley attended Mendon Township High School and Knox College in Galesburg. She and her husband raised five sons on a farm near Kellerville. She had been a cook at Kellerville Grade School, Blessing Hospital and the Job Corps Center in Kentucky. She also worked at Motorola and Davis-Cleaver.
In her younger years, Mrs. Donley taught Sunday school class and organized and taught vacation Bible school in Kellerville Baptist Church. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church near Liberty and was active in United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Donley's hobbies were gardening, crocheting, knitting and making quilts. She made quilts for her sons and their wives, an afghan for each grandchild for high school graduation and another when they got married. In addition, her great-grandchildren received a crib quilt. She and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Florida and Texas.
Survivors include her sons, Floyd (Connie) of Gilbertsville, Ky., Donald (Esther) of Peotone, Robert (Beverly) of Abingdon, James E. (Joyce) of Liberty and Lawrence (Nancy) of Lemont; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Donley was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; a sister, Rose Emma Nelson, of Virginia; and two grandsons.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Pastors Sheri Renner and Lois Sorrill conducting. Interment will be in Curless Cemetery, near Loraine.
VISITATION: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon.
