Myrna Powell, 86, of Rushville, passed away at 5:30 PM, Monday, January 27, 2020, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.
She was born on December 14, 1933, in Schuyler County, Illinois, the daughter of James and Bertha (Bozard) Gorsuch. She married Dick Powell on June 27, 1952, at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville and he survives.
Also surviving are three children Rick Powell and companion Barb Tolle of Camden, Mitzi Kruse and husband Mike and Rex Powell and wife Kay all of Rushville, 15 grandchildren Buffee Powell-Merrick and husband Andy, Rusty Powell and companion Susan Weishaar, Sacha Turner and husband Steve, Shelly Benton and companion Rich Eddings, Corey Kruse, Ryan Powell and wife Candi, Tara Powell, Kayla Boudreaux and husband Carlos, Megan Powell, Brenna Williams and husband Jordan, Ty Powell and fiancée Viola Dunn, Drew Mathewson, Cory Powell, Marcy Mathewson, Riley Powell, and Sara Powell, 19 great grandchildren Ridge Merrick, Leah, Heidi, Sophie and Micah Turner, Carley and Cacey Benton, Heaton and Canyon Powell, Jacobi Nichols, Kylie and Hunter Humer, Kaycee Powell, Marcus, Gunner and Kayleen Boudreaux, and Benjamin, Levi and Joshua Williams, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Rodney Powell, one granddaughter Carrie Powell, one grandson R. Darren Powell, one brother Gerald Gorsuch and two sisters Myrtle Terry and Letha Hickman.
A 1951 graduate of Rushville High School, she first worked at Bader and Company Elevator in Rushville. She later worked as a bookkeeper at JC Penney and Schuyler Farmers Service. For many years, she was clerk and bookkeeper, for the family owned businesses consisting of Schuyler Livestock Sales in Rushville and the Hersman Livestock Sales in Hersman and Dick Powell Auction Service.
She grew up in and was first a member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church and then later the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, south of Rushville. She enjoyed flower gardening. Her proudest accomplishment was taking care of her family. She adored spending time with them any chance she could.
Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Charla Meyers and Barbara Wooldridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Blackburn Cemetery, near Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday,. January 31, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
