Nicholas Wayne “Nick” Smith, 20 of Dixon, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born on February 6, 1996, in DeKalb, Georgia, the son of Robert Wayne and Dawn (Golden) Smith, Jr..
Surviving are his father and step mother Robert Wayne “Bobby” and Bridget Smith, Jr. of Mt. Carroll, mother and step father Dawn and Jay Powell of Sterling, paternal grandparents Robert and Becky Smith, Sr. of Astoria, Peggy and George Quinn of Rushville, step grandparents Dennis and Deb Plattenberger and Kristine Plattenberger all of Mt. Carroll and Terry Powell of Sterling, two sisters 2nd Lt. Golden Elise Andrzejewski and husband Justin of El Paso, Texas and Bailey Dawn Smith of Sterling, step sister Sydnie Powell of Sterling, several aunts, uncles, cousins and his girlfriend Kennedy Fray of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ted and Mary Catherine Golden and step grandmother Pat Powell.
Nick had worked as a roofer and also as a route assistant for Cintas. He enjoyed fishing but didn’t enjoy taking them off the hook.
Services will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Pastor Mike Courson officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested to Rosecrance or to the family.
