Richard Seals

MENDON, Ill. -- Richard "Dick" Daniel Seals, 56, of Mendon, died Tuesday (June 3, 2014) in his home after a courageous battle against cancer.

He was born June 5, 1957, in Quincy, a son of the late Glenn "Bud" and Bette Lou Seals. He married Diana Koehler (Coultas) on Aug. 3, 2001. She survives.

Richard worked for Titan Wheel with more than 25 years of dedicated service until his health caused him to retire. Prior to Titan, he worked at Firestone and Gully Transportation.

He was a faithful Chicago Bears fan and looked forward to watching each game with his wife, Diana, and family. Rich and Diana had the opportunity to make a memory with family watching their Chicago Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings in Chicago this past September during his illness.

Richard was very passionate about the things he loved which included his wife, Diana, his "puppies" Odie, Denali and Susie, riding his Harley until his illness would not allow him to do so any longer, going to Las Vegas with Diana nearly every anniversary, bowling until he got that 300 ring, his music "Juke Box man", spending time with his brother Duane, "sis" Dona and Pam, "ma", children, grandchildren, family and friends. He knew no strangers and also knew that to be absent in body was to be present with the Lord, accepted Jesus as his savior and professed "I have Jesus" and "Jesus has me."

He loved a challenge of any kind including working on old motors (especially his lawn mowers) until he got them running again. He took great pride in keeping his house looking beautiful and growing and maintaining his roses.

In addition to his wife, survivors include 11 children Danielle (Dan) McDowell, Dana (Justin) Knox, Pamela Koehler, Deena (Chris) Schulz, Elizabeth (Andy) Kasparie, Alex Koehler, Kathy Seals, Justin Koehler, Joshua Koehler, Haleyjo Koehler and Brandon Eger; nine grandchildren, Dawson Eger, Josh (Ambur) Eger, Addison Eger, Olivia Knox, Corbin Knox, Breckin Koehler, Caleb Schulz, Leigha Schulz and Cameron Kasparie; one great-grandchild, Isabella; one brother, Duane (Pennie) Seals; two sisters-in-law, Dona "sis" Coultas and Pamela Dunham; his mother- and father-in-law, Junior and Marianna "Ma" Mellon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, in Mendon Cemetery with Pastor Walt Wilcoxson conducting.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, in the Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon.

MEMORIALS: Blessing Hospice or the Crossing Church of Lima.
