Ricky J. Johnson, 70, of Rushville, passed away at 8:50 am on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Mt. Sterling Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Sterling.
He was born on February 17, 1954, in Rushville, the son of the late Millard & Melba Lou (Shores) Johnson. Following high school, Ricky served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Shortly after his service concluded in the military, Ricky met his life partner of nearly 48 years, Charla Bailey. Together, they had two children; Samantha & Tamara.
Ricky was a self-employed carpenter for many years in the area. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, cooking & watching WWE wrestling. In his younger years, Ricky gave disco dance lessons.
In addition to his life partner, Charla Bailey, of Rushville, Ricky is survived by three daughters; Misty Smith-Alward of Minier, Samantha Bailey of Rushville, and Tamara VanHyning of Rushville, seven grandchildren; Valessa, Gabe, Tiffany, Violet, Izayah, Alice & Ezequiel, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers; Jerry Shores of Avon, Jim Johnson of Rushville & Millard “Billy” (Melba) Johnson of Rushville, a sister; Elizabeth “Jane Ann” Eaglen and by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ricky was preceded in death by his brother; Gary Shores.
Memorial services honoring Ricky’s life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Triplett & Wood Funeral Home of Rushville. Bro. Matt Haberman will preside.
