Robert W. Carstens, 87, of Clayton, passed away at 10:05 AM, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at his home.
He was born on March 13, 1934, in Clayton Township, Adams County, the son of Fred and Miriam (Aden) Carstens. He attended a rural school in Clayton Township and later graduated from Golden High School in 1952.
He married his high school sweetheart, Esther Schlueter, February 20, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden. They celebrated their 65th Anniversary in 2020.
Robert farmed in Clayton Township all of his married life. He especially enjoyed raising livestock and selling his beef and pork to his customers over the years. He was an avid St. St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and later at St. Peters Lutheran Church of Lost Prairie and participated in many church activities. He loved visiting with family and friends. He and Esther especially enjoyed hosting their annual wiener roast for the congregation.
Surviving are his wife Esther, two children Jane Roberts of Camp Point and Kendall (Sheila) Carstens of Clayton, five grandchildren Nicole (Mike) Rogers, Renee (Kyle) Huston, Jaesyn (Saralyn) Luna, Michael Carstens, and Heather Trombley, 15 great grandchildren Jack, Ava, Brendan and Harrison Rogers; Aubrey, Harper, Sydney, and Blake Huston; Alex, Jacob and Katie Leenerts; Averick and Adeline Carstens, Asher Wellman and Jeremiah Gordon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leroy H. (Mary) Carstens.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden, with Pastor Paula Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Golden Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden. The family request that a mask be worn by those attending the services. Memorials are suggested to St. Peters Lutheran Church of Lost Prairie or the charity of one’s choice.
