Ruth FLESNER

GOLDEN, Ill. -- Ruth M. (Herren) Flesner, 92, of Golden, died Thursday, (Feb. 11, 2010) in the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden. Ruth was born on Sept. 9, 1917, in Pea Ridge in Brown County to John H. and Elma (Hunsaker) Herren. She married Walter J. Flesner on July 22, 1936, in Fort Madison, Iowa. Walter died Jan. 20, 2007. Ruth was a home maker and was active with the family dairy farm. She worked as an LPN at Golden Good Shepherd Home for 35 years from 1964-1999. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Golden and its LWML, the Aid Association for Lutherans and Golden Good Shepherd Auxiliary. She helped the American Red Cross during their blood drives. Ruth enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and teaching her grandchildren how to cook. Ruth leaves to cherish fond memories four children, Ronald Flesner and his wife, Joyce, of St. Cloud, Fla., Gary Flesner and his wife, Diane, of St. Cloud, Fla., Kent Flesner and his wife, Julie, of Camp Point, and Carol Hayse of Peoria; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Flesner of Phoenix, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; one brother, Eilert "Jack" Herren and his wife, Shirley, of Quincy; four sisters, Eileen Shannon of Canton, Mo., Martha Flesner of Quincy, Edna Solter and her husband, Donald, of Canton and Mary Warning of Lake Wales, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Jerald and Robert Flesner; one grandson, Brian Borden; a son-in-law, Ron Hayse; a daughter-in-law, Barrie Flesner; five brothers, Henry, Ray, Albert, Robert and Ralph Herren; three sisters, Evelyn Brown, Sophia Werts and her twin sister, Ruby Flesner. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Grieve conducting. Burial will be in Golden Community Cemetery.
