William “Bill” Cassens, 93, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Golden, Illinois, passed away at 4:55 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Home.
Bill was born in Golden, Illinois on July 13, 1927, a son of John W. and Bertha (Leenerts) Cassens. He married Rose Marie Ideus on February 27, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois. Rose Marie preceded him in death on September 18, 2018.
Bill attended Golden High School. He was an insurance salesman for Country Companies, retiring after 33 years of service. While with Country Companies he was awarded many All-American and All-Star trips. After retirement he was an Adams County Assessor for Northeast Township and inspected homes and farms for Carthage Mutual and Camp Point Mutual. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as a council member and on the cemetery, property, and other committees at the church. He was very active in his church and community. Bill was also a founding board member of the Golden Historical Society and a chairman of the Centennial Celebration in Golden. He served as a trustee on the Golden Village Board and was a life ling member of the Golden Lions Club. Bill enjoyed gardening and his fishpond, which was a favorite of the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are four sons; Bruce (Sharon) Cassens of Chatham, Mark (Sandy) Cassens of Quincy, Dennis (Mary Jo) Cassens of Byron, John (Diane) Cassens of Byron; twelve grandchildren, Rob (Betsy) Cassens, Ryan (Jennifer) Cassens, Whitney (Jason) Mehaffy, Brent Cassens, Suzanne Cassens, Greg (Hannah) Cassens, Chad (Gretchen) Nelson, Holly Jo Nelson, Tyler (Ainsley) Cassens, Courtney Cassens, Alexandria Cassens, and Nicholas Cassens; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Jerry (Sharon) Ideus of Carthage, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose Marie, a brother Monroe Cassens, four brothers-in-law, Richard Chapman, Lawrence Leenerts, Vernon Ideus and Irwin Ideus and five sisters-law, Lucille Cassens, Dorothy Cassens, Geneva Leenerts-Gronewold, Velma Chapman, and Ruth Ideus.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois with Pastor Thomas Graves and Josh Vahle officiating. Interment in Golden Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden. Memorials are suggested to Golden Historical Society, Trinity Lutheran Church or Golden Memorial Gardens.
