William "Bill" Haistings

August 9, 1942 — April 13, 2018

William K. “Bill” Haistings, 75 of Mendon passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 in his home.

Bill was born on August 9, 1942 in Mendon to the late Kenneth A. and Nora Jane (McCormick) Haistings. He married Frances Stevens on February 15, 1986 in Palmyra, Mo. Frances survives of Mendon.

Bill served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army as part of the 15th Medical Battalion 1st Air Cavalry Division. He had worked as a mechanic for Sparks and Wiewel, a manager at Auto Works, he worked at the Lima lake Pump Station and was a stationary Fireman at the Illinois Veterans Home.  He was a member of the Lima Masonic Lodge. Bill enjoyed rebuilding cars, gardening, going to tractor pulls and flying radio controlled airplanes.

Surviving are; three daughters, Donna J. (Steve) Loos of Liberty, Deborah (Jim) Bruce of Quincy, Janet (Billy) Mills of Statesboro, Ga.; four step-children, Sharon (Shawn) Tallcott of Loraine, Peter (Tina) Stodgel of Fowler, Frank Courtois of Clayton, Jerry (Tracy) Schoonover of Ursa; nineteen grandchildren, Darin Haistings, Chelsea Bruce, Madison Bruce, Robert Turnbaugh, Donnie Turnbaugh, Ronnie Turnbaugh, Julie (Mike) Davis, Jodi (Chris) Gravitt, Marcus Foor, Aleesa (Armondo)Reyes, Cordin Tallcott, Clayton Tallcott, Elizabeth Jarvis, Isaac Courtois, Ava Courtois, Dylan Schoonover, Blake Schoonover, Cole Schoonover; several great-grandchildren; one niece, Jean (Rick) Morrison of Fowler; one nephew, Jeff (Linda) Menke  of Springfield and one brother-in-law, Jack Menke of Hannibal.

Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Joanne Menke.

Services will be 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Walt Wilcoxson officiating. Interment will be in the Mendon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of services on Thursday, April 19 2018 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Adams County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society of Adams County.
